Four simple steps, about 5–8 weeks from photo to doorstep — oil paint needs time to dry, and we will not rush that.
Email or message us your favourite wedding photo and the size you like. We will honestly tell you if a photo will paint well — advice is free.
We agree on composition and background — keep the original scene, or simplify it so the two of you shine. Pay the 50% deposit and painting begins.
Your portrait is painted in oils, layer by layer. You receive a photo update at the sketch stage, while changes are still easy.
Once dry, the painting is varnished for protection. You approve the final photo, pay the balance, and it ships insured, rolled safely in a tube.

Yes — that is the joy of painting over photography. We can simplify or replace a messy background, remove distractions, tidy small details and warm up the colours. Tell us what you dream of; we will say plainly what is possible.
Absolutely. People can even be combined from different photos into one painting — a wonderful way to include a loved one who could not be there. Each additional person or pet is + CA$250.
Yes — every painting is drawn and painted in oils on canvas by our artist himself, in our Winnipeg studio. No printing, no paint-overs of photographs. You are welcome to follow the progress photos and judge for yourself.
Send it anyway. Old wedding photos of parents and grandparents make deeply moving paintings, and a skilled painter can reconstruct a great deal. We will assess it honestly before you pay anything.

Every Aperture & Palette painting is by Yirui Yuan — a classical oil painter based in Winnipeg. He trained at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy (MFA) after a BFA at the University of Manitoba, and paints in the tradition of the old masters: real oil paint, real canvas, patience.
